Come along this Wednesday from 4-5pm to see Sasha’s house rebuild in progress. As a brick veneer house on a slab on the ground the strategy is to prepare for flood waters to enter the home again when the next major flood comes and for the house to need little more than a hose out to make the building liveable.
The image above shows the block walls that have replaced the bottom half of the wall in the bathroom. This strategy removes the cavity walls that surround the waterproofed floor to ensure flood waters can’t get underneath causing the whole floor to be ripped up again.
The pine frames are in the process of being painted (some are still reading too damp which is delaying progress) and the floors throughout have been polished.
A flood resilient kitchen has been designed by Mullum Joinery and they have scheduled the job for installation in early November (they’re busy!!).
After the open house Sasha and some other residents who are going through the rebuild process (or still waiting for it to start!) are heading to the Courthouse Hotel for a drink. Please come along if you’re keen to listen and/or share.
